“As a therapist, I am personable, conscientious and caring. I chose to work in mental health as I genuinely care about  individual wellbeing, and want the best possible outcomes for my clients.”

Joy Bowhay

I retired from the NHS mental health service in 2016, after many years spent working as a therapist. My time with the NHS was invaluable, not least because of the continued professional development, but it allowed me to work with many different clients with many different needs.

I take an integrative-based approach towards Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, emphasising the importance of formulation using researched models with a clinical evidence base. This means I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify negative behaviours and thought patterns, working to create a toolset that can be useful in overcoming these.

As a cognitive behavioural therapist, I place great emphasis on working in a collaborative and trusting relationship with the client. It is important to me that I help them develop meaningful tools that they can go on to use after the therapy sessions have come to a conclusion.

How do I make an appointment?

Your first appointment will consist of an assessment where we can go over your history and establish the right plan of action for you. At present, all appointments are virtual only (telephone and online).

You can arrange an appointment either by ringing me on 07746 184472 or at contact@joybowhaycbt.co.uk.

Can I see you if I am with an insurance agency?

I accept clients who are privately paying or who are with certain insurance agencies. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

How old do I have to be to attend therapy sessions with you?

I can hold CBT sessions for individuals aged 16 years and above. There is no upper age limit.

What will happen during my first appointment?

Your first appointment will take place at a time we have prearranged. At present, all appointments are virtual only.  The main aim of the first appointment will be to complete an in-depth assessment. We shall also explore the difficulties you are experiencing, as well as your aims of coming for treatment.

The assessment appointment will last 50 minutes; subsequent appointments are also 50 minutes long.

How much will it cost?

CBT costs can vary dependent on the services you require. This can all be covered prior to your first appointment. Please feel free to send me an email.

Do you offer supervision?

I also offer supervision for therapists or trainees who are wishing to gain qualifications, CBT accreditation or to maintain their standards of practice. Please contact me to discuss rates and availability.
